Mysore zoo is a 245 acre zoo located near the palace in Mysore It is one of the oldest and most popular zoo in south India and it is the most popular attraction of the city.It was established under royal patronage in 1892. It is one of the oldest zoo in the world.

In the zoo there are currently 10 elephants and which is more than any other zoo in India.A total of 34 elephants have lived at the zoo, many of which were  eventually transfered to other zoo's.
The zoo has good collection of animals and birds,we can see verity of monkeys, deers ,tigers here. Lion ,Panther,Rhino,Zebra,Crocodile  are other occupants. There is also a snake park with different verity of snakes.

An interesting idea of zoo authorities is to allow the public to adopt animals. The prices are reasonable and you can get a tax deduction also when you adopt any animals, you are sponcering its expences for an year and it will remain at zoo.you can come and visit it anytime. A placard with your name will be placed near the animal to denot that it has been adopted by you.
